Firstly, thanks must go to Stonewall 3rd team for showing up, at all, for the match. Weather conditions were testing to say the least, with the beautiful game reduced to a mud bath at times. The afternoon commenced with the Bandits having a two man advantage over the opposition. This was reduced to just one before kick off but Stonewall didn't appear to be too concerned - we already had two of their players on our side, seemingly they preferred our orange kit!!
The game started with the Bandits attacking with the aid of the prevailing wind. It was a quiet start to the match with both sides getting accustomed to the conditions. Stonewall increased the pressure on the Bandits and forced a corner kick. This led to the first goal of the match, with the ball going straight in from the corner - a fluke goal, some might say. This set the pattern for the match, with Stonewall pressing hard onto the Bandits defence. The Bandits were defending well and when able, also creating some chances upfront, lthough not composed enough, at the critical times, to trouble their keeper. Half time was signalled with the score line still 1-0.
After a brief and windswept half time team talk the second half started. Stonewall must have decided to use the conditions right from the whistle. The Bandits now had to withstand a barrage from the elements as well as from Stonewall. The second goal was not too long in coming. Stonewall went 2-0 up, with a well worked attack. The Bandits were still in the match but defending for the most part. The score was kept at 2-0 until close to the end of the match. Stonewall were then able to capitalise on a couple of errors to increase the lead to 4-0 by the final whistle. |
