This scoreline flatters the Leicester Wildecats a bit, as the match was quite a tight game up until 10 minutes into the second half.
For once we had great weather in Leicester and a nice pitch to play on. The match started with some nice play from both teams and BRIGHTON BANDITS FC controlled the first 25 minutes of the match. That lead to Michael Scragg placing a well struck left footed shoot into the keepers bottom left hand corner.
Credit to Leicester who then picked up their game, first scoring from a goal mouth scramble and then getting a second soon after from a shot inside the area which beat stand-in keeper Jason Hall (who very bravely volunteered to go in goal in place of Marky Hyndman). Brighton then gave the home team further advantage as Captain Steve Taylor tripped the Leicester forward inside the area which resulted in a penalty. The Leicester forward tidily placed the spot kick into the bottom right hand of the goal.
Half Time score 3 - 1.
After a motivating team talk from Matt Haywood we started very well in the second half. Michael Scragg scored his second of the game with a classy flicked header which left the Leicester keeper wrong footed and unable to stop the ball rippling the back of the net. Unfortunately this header resulted in Michael having to come off as he injured himself in the process. He was replaced by Gary Rickett which resulted in Matt Haywood having to shift himself into defence, Paul Smith into midfield and Jamie Harper up front. Then the flood gates opened, with some of the Brighton players losing their concentration and resulting in Leicester scoring 4 goals in the space of 15 minutes with some very poor errors.
Final score 7 - 2.
Even though this was a very poor result for the Bandits team there are some good points and things that we need to take into consideration for the next match. At times we played some very good football with some good attacking and defending play, we also worked a lot harder for each other at times.
Our squad was very limited with only 13 players available - and losing Alan Bannister to food poisoning the night before the game didn't help matters.
I would like to say a big thank you Jason Hall for volunteering to go in goal which was an unfamiliar position for him to play, and to Ben Ede who travelled all the way to Leicester to cheer us on despite injuring his neck a couple of days before the match.
This was only our second league match guys, and nearly every team has lost a game, so there is still very much to play for.
